Lake Nona West Open Now: What’s Open in August

The grand opening everyone was waiting for turned out to be six of them, spaced across fourteen weeks, and by the time you read this the center is already more than half operational. If you were holding out for a ribbon cutting, you missed it in mid-May. If you were waiting for the parking lot to make sense, that happens later this month.

Here is the useful part for anyone who already lives inside a fifteen-minute drive of Boggy Creek Road: Lake Nona West did not open. It has been opening, on a schedule, and August is the week the rotation finishes. What that changes about a Tuesday errand run is bigger than any single tenant announcement made it sound.

The staggered opening, in the order it actually happened

Tavistock built a 405,000-square-foot, 54-acre center on Lake Nona Boulevard near Boggy Creek Road, and then opened it in installments rather than all at once. Homesense arrived first in mid-May, followed by Barnes & Noble in the middle of June and Total Wine & More about a week later; Target and Dick's Sporting Goods with Golf Galaxy opened in July, and Nordstrom Rack follows in August.

Sizes come from Tavistock's own tenant sheet, which totals more than 317,000 square feet across the previously announced retailers. The rest of the leased footprint belongs to smaller shops that will trickle in through the fall and into early 2027.

Why the Nordstrom Rack week matters more than Target week did

Target got the headlines because Target always gets the headlines. The Lake Nona store opened on July 26 as Target's 136th in Florida, and it carries the newer grocery format along with a CVS Pharmacy, Starbucks Café, and Target Optical inside. Address for your maps app: 6065 Lake Nona Boulevard.

But Target on its own does not change your errand pattern. Target plus Homesense plus Total Wine plus Barnes & Noble plus Nordstrom Rack, all inside one walkable loop, does. That combination did not exist in Lake Nona at any point before this summer, and it will not exist as a complete set until the Nordstrom Rack doors unlock this month. The reason to note the August date is not the store itself. It is the moment the center starts working the way it was drawn on paper, where a single parking event can cover four separate errands that used to require three trips to Narcoossee Road, the Millenia corridor, and the outlets.

The stores that are still fenced off

The lifestyle-tier tenants are the second wave, and most are not open yet. Watch for these in the smaller storefronts along the activity plaza:

• Cañonita, the Tavistock Restaurant Collection Mexican concept. It takes a 9,321 square foot space at 5947 Lake Nona Blvd and is targeting a late 2026 opening. The concept has been running at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas for 25 years, and city permit records tie a $4.5 million interior buildout to the space. If you already like the Cañonita Street Taqueria at Boxi Park, keep going there. There are no plans to close the Boxi Park location.
• JETSET Pilates in a 2,519 sf studio, and Sephora in 4,741 sf, both from the earlier announced roster.
• Drybar, Just Salad, Gloss Nail Co., and Kilwins Ice Cream, four smaller tenants confirmed in April totaling 8,078 square feet, per Tavistock's second tenant announcement.

If your mental model of the center is "Target and a few restaurants," recalibrate. The dining and personal-service wave is the one that will change what a Friday night looks like, and most of it is still behind construction fencing.

The murals are worth a walk on their own

Before you write off a shopping center as a shopping center, notice what Tavistock did with the walls. A public art program led by Chalk & Brush, a Miami studio founded by Cuban-born artist Cinthia "Cynno" Santos, is bringing 30 murals to Lake Nona West, integrated across buildings and walkways with designs drawing from native flora, wildlife, and the surrounding community. A large "Greetings from Lake Nona West" mural is already visible from Lake Nona Boulevard, and an inner courtyard is getting a "Wish You Were Here" wall designed as the community's next photo moment.

The murals matter because they are the reason the center reads as a place rather than a plaza. That distinction is easy to dismiss until you stand in it.

What the roundabouts and the shuttle are actually for

Two engineering choices at Lake Nona West are quieter than the tenant list but shape the daily experience more. Tavistock built two roundabouts in front of the plaza to keep traffic flowing on Lake Nona Boulevard, and will offer Beep autonomous shuttle rides to help reduce traffic. That is a response to a measurable problem. Florida Department of Transportation data shows that between State Road 528 and the Osceola County line, an average of 38,000 cars traveled on Narcoossee Road each day in 2022, and the surrounding street network has been feeling that weight for years.

The other feature to notice, especially if you drive an EV: the center includes 20 Level 3 chargers in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, offering a charging speed up to 400 kW that allows some vehicles to recharge in about 20 minutes. That is fast enough to convert a coffee-and-Barnes-and-Noble visit into a full charge without planning around it.

The August rhythm at Dockside is unchanged

One reason the Lake Nona West opening feels manageable rather than disruptive is that the community's slower routines never moved. Dockside is still where the week softens. This month alone, the Dockside summer market runs the evening of August 5, Sunlight Yoga is held there on August 7 at 9:15 a.m. and again August 10 at 6 p.m., and a comfortably paced community yoga class meets at Crescent Park in Laureate Park on August 8.

You can rework a Saturday around a Target run and still keep the yoga on Friday morning. That is the point. The retail center did not replace the waterfront cadence. It added a second axis to the community, roughly a mile west of the first, and the residents who use both will find August the first month it is possible to do so.

A short read on what changes next

Three things to watch through the rest of the year, in the order they matter:

1. Nordstrom Rack opening date. Announced for August, not yet dated publicly. When it drops, the tenant loop is complete for the first phase.
2. Cañonita construction. The signage and the buildout schedule will tell you whether late 2026 holds or slips into early 2027. A $4.5 million interior is not a fast build.
3. The small-shop wave. Drybar, Just Salad, Kilwins, Gloss Nail Co., JETSET Pilates, and Sephora will open in a cluster rather than one at a time. That is the week Lake Nona West stops being a Target run and starts being a place people linger.

There is a broader piece of context worth holding. Lake Nona's Medical City continues to grow, and one of the most impactful additions is the new AdventHealth hospital expected to open in November 2026, expanding access to healthcare services for residents in Lake Nona and surrounding communities, and Sprouts Farmers Market is targeting a summer 2026 debut. Put all of that on one calendar and the pattern is obvious. What Tavistock is finishing in 2026 is not a retail center. It is the daily-life infrastructure the community was still driving out for.
